Take Me Out to the Ball Game

On Thursday, Tommy, Meredith and I went to the game. Originally the day was intended as a ditch day in the bleachers for some friends and me. Their work got in the way and they had to cancel, so I invited Meredith and Tommy to come with me.

The weather forecast was not great. Meredith asked what the rain plan was. My plan was for it to not rain. Fortunately, Thursday morning, a coworker offered up his club level seats for the game. Good thing as the weather was really not cooperating.

It really was a great day and everything worked out for us. Nana picked up Tommy and Meredith and then picked me up at work. She dropped us all of at the ball park. Tommy couldn't wait to get to the game and he was great. He charmed everyone at the game and really had a good time.

Tommy and Meredith ran into the Orange and Black Attack and scored some eye black.


And this K. The back of the K says "Grab Some Pine Meat" which Tommy could read but we had to explain what it meant.

The rain stopped and the slides were reopened just in time.


Aunt Jen, Tommy and Lou. I had pointed out Lou Seal the Mascot to Tommy before the game. And then the seal disappeared. Tommy wanted to know where it was. Normally that seal is everywhere but did he come back out on Thursday - no. We distracted Tommy by teaching him about baseball.

He learned:
The pitcher throws the ball and he stands on the dirt hill.
The batter hits the ball and he's the batter because he holds the bat.
The catcher catches the ball.

and
Number 12 is dreamy.

We sang Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the 7th inning stretch (and on the metro home, and at Nana's).

Meredith here, just adding some cute pics Nana took after the game. Nana bought Tommy a Giants hat the day before in anticipation of the big game. But it fell off as we jumped out of the car so we didn't actually have it at the game. And it was too cold/wet to show off his #55 shirt. So here's the complete ensemble.

Gymnastics Performance

Tommy's gymnastics class had a performance today. He's been in this class for five months and has grown so much. First of all, he can now reach the water fountain! Seriously though he loves gymnastics and is eager to go every week.

The theme was "Day in the Bay" and everything had a San Francisco theme. He started off enthusiastic today but then they set everybody up facing this row of seats (which are not usually there) and started playing music (which was louder than usual). All this variance from the usual routine was a bit overwhelming for poor Tommy and his face grew very serious and a little pale. Then the bottom lip started to protrude and he looked around anxiously. And then the tears started! (so sad, but I'm also so bummed I hadn't started the camera yet as it was adorably sweet) He ran over to Nana and me and we convinced him that this was just his regular class and he didn't have to worry. He resumed his position and as you'll see on the video, just takes a minute or so to get going! He did a great job throughout the class and received his certificate and medal at the end!

Tommy is switching to a Saturday class next week since he's also starting preschool NEXT WEEK!

Busy Week

Tom's show was this week and it was a great success. Of course, the week that led up to it was full of late nights and lots to do for Tom so we kept ourselves occupied and had a lot of help!

A resourceful aunt manages to keep Lucy asleep and use her as a TV tray!

Lucy's second Farmer's Market (though she didn't appear in pictures at her first, so here you go)
I don't have copies of her xrays but Cali had a busy week. We went to the vet for a checkup and to talk about her very sore hips. Turns out our old lady has arthritis. She was given some glucosomine and prescribed Activity Moderation: "No running, no jumping, no horse-play, no chasing balls - leashed walks only." We're glad she's healthy, but these activity restrictions are going to be very difficult for her, and also for Finny! Wish us luck!

Hey speaking of xrays...
After all he did this week to make his show awesome, Tom was a half hour away from it being over and done with when a desk needed an intermission repair on Sunday afternoon. So in the dark Tom grabs his screw gun to make the quick fix. Unfortunately a little slip of the hand, and the screwdriver bit crashed down on his thumbnail. Because the nail was broken and a little askew, we went to the ER just to be safe. Tom has fingernail injury experience, you know. They tell us the nail will probably grow out just fine but they wanted an xray to make sure the thumb wasn't broken (we hadn't even though of that!) Good news is, all is fine, though a bit sore!

Oh and the Sharks lost... and lost.... and lost... and lost!

Welcome Baby Bali!

5 months old and the baby no more!

Lucy turned 5 months old this weekend and celebrated by welcoming a new baby cousin in to the world. Welcome Molly May!

Mommy celebrated 5 months old by bringing out the Jumperoo and freeing up her hands for a few minutes! Who knows what I'll be able to accomplish now.

As you can see, Lucy needs a little boost, just like Tommy did at the same age!

Baby blog note: Lucy rolled over today!! *admittedly, I missed it as Tommy and I were having a "discussion" regarding the dumping of 200 legos on his bedroom floor. But she did it! poor second kid! Nobody's paying attention! She wouldn't do it over for the camera, sorry!

And here's Tommy's newest accomplishment at the new playground! These kids are keeping me on my toes!

Peas Please

Farmer John had the first pick of peas out this week so off we went to the Farmer's Market. It was Lucy's first - but we didn't bring a camera. So the phone will have to suffice.

We didn't take any pictures of Lucy at the actual Farmer's Market so here's our "sweet pea" earlier in the day with Nana.

Lady Bug

Lucy looked very cute on her first Mother's Day. Too bad I didn't really take any pictures with my kids that day! I did get one "self-portrait"


Almost 5 months old and Lucy hasn't rolled over yet. Admittedly, with a big brother who likes to stomp and two big doggies, she gets limited floor time. We're working on it. She did manage an assisted roll on Mother's Day. She just needs to push off of something. She doesn't seem stressed out by the lack of rolling. She can spin herself around in a circle on her tummy or back!

I heard "Brown Eyed Girl" on the radio the other day and it made me a little sad. Do girls with blue eyes have a song?

New Playground!

We got a new playground just down the hill from our house! Perfect for little boys who love to climb!

Experiment

After a few nights of finding ourselves at 9:00pm with a not-at-all-tired 3-year-old we decided to attempt the no nap lifestyle. We tried a few days and he'd have a cranky hour or so but generally made it to bedtime on time and actually tired, rather than the 90 minutes of tossing, turning, potty breaks, etc.

I think today the experiment failed. He went upstairs to read by himself. It got quiet after a few minutes. I called up. I get a little nervous but know I didn't hear any thuds. I go upstairs (waking the baby sleeping on me) to find this.

Poor little guy. In fairness, "Harry and the Lady Next Door" is a bit long and wordy, for my taste too. Now, let the parental judging begin. I just left him on the floor. No blankey, no moving him to the bed. I will say the floor is soft and I was holding the recently awoken baby. Of course, I did go downstairs and get the camera... What do you think? I am appalled, Bad Mama! or Who am I kidding, we'd all do the same thing!

Warning: potty talk and potty jokes ahead!

Well to all who said to just stay home for a week to potty train...... It totally worked. I remain cautiously optimistic because I am afraid to jinx myself but this was day 8 and he has been near flawless. We ventured out sans pullups today even braving gymnastics in big boy underwear! He will put on "sleepy underwear" for nap and nighttime though he is on a three day streak of staying dry through the night! He wakes up when he has to go! That may mean 2 am, but it's happening.

All is going well, but the things still left to tackle are huge.

I continue to travel with my own potty as we take baby steps toward the real toilet. Victories at church yesterday and burgermeister today give me hope that this will be resolved soon. I may keep the car potty, though, per Shawna's wisdom.

He has not successfully completed #2 on the potty and shows a reticence to do so. This is the only "accident" he's had in days. Suggestions welcomed!!

The week was not delightful at all. I would say it was very stressful for all involved but we persevere and rewarded ourselves with plenty of m&ms too!

I know there will be ups and downs but I am just happy to be well on our way. Preschool starts June 1st and I wanted this done first! (knock on wood)

The anatomy discussions that have blossomed out of this week have been hilarious. He has some new vocabulary words he may share with you! After he had an interesting theory as to from whence I peed it became necessary to set the record straight. So I apologize in advance if he starts telling you that Mommy doesn't have a weiner, she has a "bagina"
