Z-O-O: That spells zoo!

We visited the Oakland Zoo today and enjoyed lunch with Auntie Amy and snacks with Bengazi and Tiki

Gathering snacks

This is Tommy's 3rd or 4th time feeding giraffes but he totally took charge this time and was super comfortable and seems to know how to keep the big nosy boys entertained.


Lucy's first visit to the giraffes - wearing her giraffe dress (see below) Amy introduced her around as a reticulated baby.


All our times at the zoo we never rode any rides. Here Tommy scored front row seats on the "people train." He'll learn another day that most people have to wait in line and don't get to feed giraffes! ;) Lucy decided it was a dining car.

The train goes through the emu and wallaroo exhibit and the conductor put up the quiet coyote sign, which Tommy attempts here.


The height limit for these rides was 36". Both ride supervisors spent several minutes lining Tommy up against the board, taking his hat off, moving his feet. Apparently Tommy is approximately 35.98". Graciously we passed muster and he was allowed to ride. Hopefully we can stretch him a little in the next few weeks as 36" is the minimum for a lot of rides at LegoLand.

Ok moms and dads. The empty baby book guilt can be erased! You can get your blog printed into a book. HERE The price is pretty good especially since I was close to printing out each page on our printer and that would have cost a pretty penny in ink and paper anyway! I ordered a book with all our posts from 2008, I'll let you know how it turns out! If it's good, then I'll do a yearly archive and these kids will have a printed record of all the crazy stuff we wrote about them long after the internet is a distant memory... or imprinted on the chip in their brains? Who knows?!

St. Patrick's Day

3 months old

Lucy is 3 months old today. No check up this month but I weighed her today and she was 11lbs 12 oz. Her thigh rolls had me thinking she'd gained more weight this month, but apparently they're deceiving.



My mom always asks if Lucy has learned any new tricks. Here's the newest:

Shamrocker!

On Saturday we went to see Cullan's Hounds a Irish American Traditional Rock group. Of course, we didn't go to their concert at the Great American Music Hall. No, we saw them rockin it for the juice box crowd at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. This crowd probably wasn't as different as their usual crowd. There was a mosh pit, tantrums, groupies, and kids passing out (that was Lucy who slept through most of it). They creatively changed some lyrics from "whiskey and beer" to "cookies and root beer" but seemed to keep a lot of the themes of drinkin' and fightin' in the music. What can you do, you can't rewrite every traditional Irish song! :)

Tommy secretly liked it but was a bit hungry/sleepy/cranky so refused to show interest or joy during the concert.



And in preparation for the big day tomorrow, Tom was busy baking last night:

That bright thing in the sky

The sun shone over our house today. While I'm a fog-lover, I'll take a cool sunny day here and there, as long as it doesn't get hot! We walked to storytime and did a loop down the hill to the shopping center then back up the hill home. Tommy, who's not always a great distance walker, does great on this uphill trek which makes pushing Lucy and the stroller up a lot easier! When we got home, we played in the backyard, something we very rarely do!

First Dentist Visit

Tommy had his first trip to the dentist today. You may recognize the toys and office.
Amazingly, we had virtually no drama! The only splotchiness came when they called him back and he had to leave the toy behind!

Here they put this purple stuff on his teeth to make any plaque show up. I was holding my breath. I mean, they're not going to lecture HIM if this doesn't look good! Fortunately, he looked great and we're apparently doing a good job.
Now the cleaning - notice he's totally calm about all of this, I was shocked!
And the secret to all this? Wouldn't you know...?


He got 2 prizes and a sticker for his bravery!


I think that was the best dentist appointment I have ever had!

Things sure have changed. The fluoride treatment was this little foam that took 2 seconds to apply. No sitting and biting on gauze drooling into a bowl for 15 minutes? How will he ever learn how to play Super Mario Bros.? (shout out to Dr. Halterman)

His teeth look great except for a small overbite (sorry Tommy) and apparently, a small upper jaw! All the pieces may be coming together as to why this kid, and Lucy, weren't able to nurse normally. In the end, he didn't want to leave the office. A great time was had by all.
