Tommy sings the classics - Vol. 2

Busy Boys - updated!
My guys have done a great job entertaining themselves this week as I've been at the show every night. Here are some silly shots of the two Toms in action:
Our FAVORITE new jammies - it's like Christmas morning in these flannel Thomas jammies. Tommy says they're "sooo soft!"
Thanks to G-ma for this comparison shot. Meredith first (younger about 19 months) , then Tommy.
And then last night they got ready for Halloween and carved "Daddy's pumpkin." Tom says that Tommy mostly observed but did help scoop pumpkin guts a little with a spoon. I knew that actually touching pumpkin guts would be way too "messy" for him! Tom did an impressive carve job and managed to utilize the camera's timer to take pictures of them both carving!
Ready for Halloween!! (except for the Diego-related nightmare he had last night. Here's hoping that doesn't throw a wrench in our costume plans!)

Family Fun & Festival
As mentioned, yesterday we hit up the Holy Name Festival and Family Fun Day at SI. G-ma and Papa had Joey and Clara so we all went together. Here are some of G-ma's pics & videos:
First we fished in the Scary Swamp. Clara braved it first, of course, while the boys stood back timidly. Once they got over the scary hand that popped up, and saw it delivered candy, they were all game!
Tommy throws balls into a ghost's mouth to win a prize. I wish you could have seen people's reaction to Joey's first throw, which sailed through the middle of the mouth.
The preschool that rents space from Holy Name was having an open house so we checked it out. This pic just begs for a caption...

at SI they had this HUGE inflatable slide. Joey was up and down it a million times by himself. Tom escorted Clara and Tommy once each. I thought Tommy would hate it, but you can see them have a great time on this pretty vertical drop!

If you're 2 1/2 and you know it...
Today is Tommy's Half Birthday, which is a big deal in this house! We had a fun day at the Holy Name Festival and at SI's Family Fun Day (pictures from Grandma coming shortly, no doubt).
In the meantime, here's the 2 1/2 year Spiderman pic and a cute recent video of Tommy happy, and knowing it!
In other news, my show will be over on Friday and I will return to the world of the living! We're about 7 weeks away from the arrival of #2 and all is well at this time. Looking forward to a relaxing November...

The entire family was seen sporting the Diego-style flashlight hat at one time or another last night. That thing was awesome as our power was out for about 12 hours yesterday. Who knew? Add that to your emergency kits, folks.

Farmer John's Pumpkin Patch
Once again we visited Farmer John's Pumpkin Patch. Tommy has been looking forward to this for weeks and especially looking forward to riding in Farmer John's "traptor."

Nonna's Birthday - a year ago!
This pic was taken at Nonna's 90th birthday last year when an apple pie warming in the oven set off the fire alarm. No big deal. Then the phone rang but we were too busy opening windows and laughing to answer it. No big deal. Until the fire truck pulled up. Lesson learned: if you have a security system and your smoke detector goes off, answer the phone or the fire department will show up at your house! It turned out to be a lot of fun. The firemen got dinner, the kids got a tour of the firetruck, and the birthday girl got stickers and a stuffed animal. Then the firemen got a real call and sped away.Happy Birthday Eda! We miss you.

Go Diego, Go!
I'm sure this will be the last year as a mother that I have my child's Halloween costume ready to go by October 1st (heck, it was ready 2 weeks ago!). Since Tommy's obsession of the season is Diego, we're going with that look for Halloween. No spoilers, but it's going to be awesome. Some have already seen some of the accessories as Tommy wants to bring them everywhere (and so taking a cue from Aunt Sarah, I shoved some diapers in his rescue pack!)
If you haven't watched Diego, it's quite good. No hallucinogenic animation or excessively annoying songs. Plus, the voice of Click the Camera is acted by Rosie Perez! We've become a bevy of information about rainforest animals and their friends around the world!
Poor G-ma already learned the hard way the difference between a parrot and a Scarlett Macaw! When Tommy's gearing up to watch Diego he requests the episode with the Spectacled Bears or Iggy the Iguana by name. His daycare got a new doormat a couple of weeks ago. When Tommy saw it he said "Look, red-eyed tree frogs!" (and has said that every morning since and entered daycare saying "ribbit ribbit.") Only Auntie Amy could match Tommy's knowledge when she watched and said, "Look, a tapir!" Quite a pair!
Diego often glosses over some of the big issues like deforestation and the food chain, choosing to leave it simply as "Armadillos are scared of pumas." At what point, I wonder, will Tommy ask why all the animals seem to be afraid of pumas? It seems, though, that some creatures are more valuable than others on Diego as we have counted (en Espanol!) how many jellyfish the Leatherback Sea Turtles can eat! Hmm... quite a double standard, Diego.
Nevertheless, Tommy can count to ten in Spanish, says gracias and di nada, knows that we wear seatbelts so we can be safe, and will be known to shout "ayudame" from his room when he needs assistance. He also thought it was pretty cool when I told him Uncle Tim was a real animal rescuer like Diego!
It's hilarious having conversations with this little guy when he busts out some of this knowledge already stored away and easily accessible from his brain in the right contexts. As long as we stop the DVR quick enough and he doesn't see all the toy commercials on Nickelodeon we're in good shape!
