The Timeless Art of Tommy

Tommy had his 4 year check up today and did great putting on quite a show for us and for the doctor.
This is a cropped version of a very cute picture of Tommy that is not appropriate to be shared on the internet. But the post title should clue the Seinfeld fans into the content of the rest of the picture.

He clocked in at 34lbs 10oz (40%ile) and what the doctor described as a "compact" 38 inches tall (15%ile). We know he was 36" at LegoLand last year so two inches in one year sounds pretty good to us. The doctor always seems to feel the need to reassure us that he is growing right on track... for him. Well, you plant a potato, you get a potato!

We described for the doctor these leg and foot pains that have hit Tommy in the nighttime lately. He will wake up in a lot of pain and come in and tell me his "femur" or his "tibia" hurts. Once I get over the fact that my then 3 year old has just used the word "tibia" at 4am, we were really stumped at what these pains could be. The doctor's verdict: growing pains. Yikes! This growing up thing is rough.

He seems unfazed.

He got to do the hearing test for the first time...
He also did the vision test, but he was a pro at that since we just went to the eye doctor last week. Shown here

Testing 3D vision with the eye doctor
I'm still flabbergasted that this kid is so giddy at the pediatrician (as long as there are no shots), is in a zen-like zone at the eye doctor, but literally had a panic attack at the dentist. What gives?

It was a great checkup. A clean bill of health and no shots until next year for Kindergarten (!)

In preschool news...
Tommy's school had a small carnival today and Tom got to go and operate the cotton candy machine! Tommy looks like he had fun too!

He only has one more month at this school and then will take the summer off before transferring to a different Pre-K program.

This has been such a big year for Tommy's development and it has been such a joy to watch. It was just a year ago that we accomplished potty training and by this time a year ago, Tommy was working on memorizing the states with his puzzle and starting to read. His thirst for information and knowledge has just exploded since then and we love providing him with the tools and fun facts he seeks. I have learned so many new things this year, because Tommy has taught them to me. I can't wait to see all that he might learn and accomplish in the next year!

Gooses! Geeses!

"Quack Quack"

Nana reports:
"Lucy and I went to Stow Lake today, saw the ducks (quack quack) and walked around and were about to leave when I noticed people watching - taking pictures a little bit away. So we went over to see eight baby goslings and their parents out of the water on the pavement. A woman who was taking pictures said she has been watching them on and off and they were about three weeks old and all have survived. The parents were very attentive and shooed off some seagulls who ventured too close. And then they all got into the water except one who seemed afraid to take the plunge so they all waited and eventually the gosling got into the water. So cute!!"

Birthday preview

On Friday, we celebrated Tommy's birthday at his school with a pizza lunch and cupcakes.

This is Tommy's good buddy Nathan.

Easter Pictures

We took some Easter pictures when we went in for Tommy's birthday pictures (just like when we took Christmas pictures for Lucy's birthday pictures! Great timing kids!) Even though we waited at the picture place for 2 hours (since I didn't make an appointment...) the kids were in the perfect mood and took some adorable pictures. Never mind Lucy's black and blue face - the result of a week of 16 month old bumps, bruises, and, well, Barney.

There were more pictures but apparently the Picture People no longer post the pictures on their website for clients to take screenshots of and save for free. Ugh! The nerve. If you want a copy of one of these, let me know! No need to save and print your own. The same goes for Tommy's birthday pics.

Hanging around at home

Just various pictures from the last month or so of us hanging around the house.

Today, Lucy helped me make 30+ cupcakes for Tommy's party at school tomorrow. Actually, Lucy helped by taking a 3-hour nap! But mommy's old apron is too cute!

She is very proud of herself when she walks into the kitchen and takes things off the pantry shelf. So we often find her walking around the house with cereal bars, the only things in reach.

Random but cool: This is the list Tommy uses when he pretends to have a Toy Story Staff Meeting. The list on the right was written entirely by Tommy in December. The list (with identical words) on the left was written entirely by Tommy in March! Anybody think preschool isn't worth it?

This is Lucy's new favorite spot on the house. She likes to let her feet dangle or slide forward and "tap tap tap" on the steps. Much like someone else did at this exact age.

Tommy and Tom get some practice with tools, taking furniture apart.

And just some cute kids...
This is nothing.... wait until you see the Easter pics we took. Crazy cute and coming soon...
