Halloween 2010

We had a great time with Halloween this year. Tommy had some ups and downs as far as enthusiasm for the day, but our evening went off without a hitch (and with a Giant Victory!!)

Flashing back to Friday, this was a happy picture of Tommy at his school's costume parade.
The above picture was not indicative of how the morning actually played out. Poor Nana was subject to a major meltdown (school picture day style) from Tommy who really really did not want to parade around the block. He ultimately missed the parade, but recovered when offered his goody bag later in the morning. Here's his class all lined up (sans Tommy but with Lucy on the end - the school director loves Lucy)

Tom and Tommy once again carved their pumpkin and got very fancy making, what Tommy called a "skull-o-lantern"


Here's the pumpkin I carved for Lucy. We got many compliments from trick-or-treaters on our jack-o-lanterns.

Tommy had so much fun visiting the neighbors and saying "trick or treat" followed by an exclamation of "ooh more candy!" and THEN remembering a very polite "thank you." Thanks to Nana and Grandma for coming along on the walk. Between Darth Vader's obstructed sight, Lucy's hairdo, andTommy's many accessories (goody bag, light saber, flashlight, waaaay too revealing open chested shirt), we had our hands full and needed the backup!

And after running out of candy this year, we have 2 unopened bags left this year! Our block was really quiet - don't know if it was the Giants game or if people just went elsewhere. Oh well, my students will be happy tomorrow!

I told Tommy that by next year, Lucy would be able to walk up to houses with him and she'd be able to say "trick or treat." He was not ok with that!

We can't believe we really have school tomorrow...

Godmothers' Day at the Zoo.

Lucy and I went to visit Amy and her giraffes at the Oakland Zoo. Lucy has been before but it was my first visit. Lucy had a blast.

Halloween Preview

I couldn't wait... this morning was too cute! Check out Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia this morning before they left for the costume parade at Tommy's school.




Thoughts:
1. Tommy can't bring his light saber to school - it's a weapon - so Tom made a little holster box to hold his binoculars.
2. Tommy spilled milk all over his shirt and pants shortly before I intended to take pictures. Was I going to take it all off so he could throw it in the dryer? No way... Mama had to go to work! Smile, kid!
3. Lucy's shirt is a size 2T or 3T boys' turtleneck. I assumed it would be a lot longer on her, but when she sits, it's very short. (Funny, I tell my female students that all the time, you think I'd know.) SO... not only is my daughter dressed up like a PRINCESS, she is a princess in a micro mini-dress. Mommy Fail!

Freaky Friday

A few months ago, Baskin Robbins was selling those ice cream sundaes in the baseball helmets. The first time Tom went, they did not have Giants helmets so he got one with Tommy's initial on it (and red and blue no less!) He went back the next week and got a Giants one.

Two days ago, I realized which two helmets we had in our house...


I kind of wish we'd placed a bet or something instead of buying sundaes!

Bribery

Today was school picture day. Tommy was not interested in school picture day. When the time came he apparently threw a major fit. Mid-meltdown his school director managed to bribe him with a brush. But he was not satisfied with one brush. He needed 6 brushes: "one for everybody in my family." The pictures were taken. They said he smiled very cutely, though I won't be surprised if he's all splotchy when we get them back in a couple of weeks.

These Cookies are a little on the Dark Side

Grandma bought the Star Wars Cookie Cutters from William Sonoma but didn't feel herself the "baking" grandmother so she passed the project off to Nana. We spent the afternoon of Tom's birthday baking Star Wars cookies. They came out great and don't need any decorating (though that won't stop me from dipping them in frosting...) Nana dutifully made 3 different colors of dough for the different shapes, but Tommy did not discriminate. So we have white Darth Vaders and green Storm Troopers and so on...

A Little Lu

My mom always asks if Lucy has learned any new tricks lately. Well,

apparently she's learning to drive

And she's able to stand up in her crib (if we put her up on her feet...)
She played some BINGO at the Holy Name festival

And she and Diego are having quality time with the turtle (in some crazy pink fleece overalls...yikes!)

Tommy is 3 1/2!

Happy Half Birthday Tommy!

Tommy weighed 35 lbs when I stopped by the doctor's office last week. He continues to love school and learning about planets and learning state capitals. His current obsession is the Buzz Lightyear toy he bought with the money in his piggy bank (we shoved some birthday cash in there last April...). We also spend a lot of time watching Toy Story, talking about Toy Story, and wanting to play the Toy Story game. Fortunately Star Wars is still good fun in this house and Halloween costumes are in production.

Humm Baby!

We watched Game 6 at Nana's house eating pizza (since that is exactly what we'd done for Game 4, and were instructed by Aunt Jen not to change) and it was great fun to watch the Giants win! I remembered that I had pictures on our camera that I never posted from our trip to the Giants game in September.

One Last Buddy Pic

Tommy and Marco had their last class at Chabot today. Thanks to Grandma for taking them!
Clearly they've maintained their coolness while learning all this science.... "Yo we outta here.... word to your mother"

10 months

Our camera has officially given up, so here are Lucy's 10 month shots as taken with my camera phone! She's getting more chatty and very good with her hands. She now refuses to eat anything resembling baby food if there is real food to be had. Of course, she has not cut a single tooth yet, but she is very versatile with those gums and manages to eat a lot of solid food. She feeds herself small pieces and just has to be kept from stuffing her mouth full! No crawling yet but she's very good at the butt scoot and can really get anywhere she'd like, one way or another! Birthday countdown is on as we look at the calendar and think about how we'll fit in this birthday party between Thanksgiving and Christmas!
