From little seedlings

One of the favors from Julianne's party was a little planter with seeds.  Lucy designed the planter at the party and came back with the seeds and potting soil.  She planted the seeds last week and today, I noticed two little green sprouts.  I was so excited and could not wait to show her.  Maybe it was my buildup but she did not seem as excited - but then they are not that easy to spot.  Hopefully, these little seedlings will continue to grow and soon we will have flowers!

Giants and MiniFigs - Part Two

Saturday morning of our trip began with another walk, all the way to another hotel where we could pick up our rental car for our day trip to LegoLand.  There was kind of a wait at the Enterprise counter and the guy working felt bad.  When he saw the two boys I had in tow, he upgraded us to a car a little different than the one I'd reserved!

We had finally arrived in LegoLand - along with everyone else in the world, it seemed!

Tommy enjoyed seeing the MiniLand, particularly all the Lego Star Wars stuff that had been added since our last trip 3 years ago!

The park was so crowded, we didn't really ride more than 1 or 2 rides.  Tommy did a few of the interactive activities and we walked around a lot.  In the end, he had the most fun shopping with the birthday money he'd been given.  He picked out a big Star Wars X-Wing to assemble and this book.  Once he got the book, he didn't want to look at anything else in the park.  He asked to sit and read it somewhere.  We decided that it was time to go, and so he read on the way home.

We didn't have tickets for Saturday's baseball game, so we did have to find a restaurant that was showing the game.  We tried to eat slowly and stayed as long as we felt we could, but eventually gave up and listened to the rest on the radio in our hotel room.  Good thing.... the game went to 12 innings!

Sunday brought a day game and we did have tickets for that.  It was a beautiful day and we were blissfully in the shade!

No batting practice on a Sunday with an afternoon game and a 12-inning game the night before.  But we stood dutifully behind the dugout for a long time hoping to catch a glimpse of anybody.  Bochy waved and saluted at Tommy, which was very exciting!

We tried everything to help, but the Giants just couldn't win a game against the Padres that weekend 

It was a long day, and a long weekend made longer by the sequester-induced flight delay on the way home.  But our Sunday evening flight was full of orange and black wearing, weary Giants fans, heading home and back to work/school bright and early the next morning!

Giants and MiniFigs - Part One

After turning 6, Tommy enjoyed an only child weekend as we ditched a day of school, left Lucy behind, and traveled to San Diego for a weekend of baseball games and LegoLand.  Tommy knew about the LegoLand trip.  Santa brought those tickets months ago and Tommy has been very patient waiting to cash in!  What he didn't know was that we had masterminded the whole timing to coincide with the Giants being in San Diego.  Here are some pictures of the weekend.

We arrived Thursday evening excited (and a little hyper from a trip to Ghiradelli for ice cream) so Tommy was introduced to Sports Center to unwind... This was probably not a good idea.

The next morning we reveled in nice weather and the fact that we were not at school.  The boys played catch along the waterfront before we headed off to our destination.

We through in something educational, of course, and toured the U.S.S. Midway.

He may be 6, but we did a lot of walking and so piggy back rides were still in order!

This treat was the "chocolate milk" he ordered... WITH BREAKFAST!  seriously?!?

Friday night brought the big surprise.  We told Tommy they weren't showing the Giants game in our hotel (true) so we were going to walk around until we found some place to eat dinner and watch it.  "No, Tommy we do not have tickets.  They're sold out.  They're too expensive."  All good excuses that usually work at home.

But Petco Park is not AT&T Park and so we surprised him at the gates with tickets for Friday night's game.

We got there early for batting practice and sprinted through the gates with many other Giants fants to get right behind the dugout.  We did not get any autographs, but really enjoyed seeing everybody up close.

During batting practice, someone hit a foul ball into our section along the 3rd base line and another kid got it.  This kid, without pausing, ran up and gave the ball to Tommy.  So here he shows his official MLB ball (stamped Practice) that the nicest kid in the world gave to him.  (May have been hit by Noonan, thrown into the crowd by Sanchez)

Love this... two generations of fans!

We even got fireworks!
