Day Care

Tommy had his first day at day care today and it appears to have been a success. We brought him around 8:30am and hung out for about a half hour to ease him into it. He was quiet and stayed close at first but the other kids were so social and coming up to him and us showing us all the toys and showing off what they've learned from Paula including their shapes but most impressively rattling off the heads of state. The oldest boy is starting preschool next week, he is probably close to 3 years old so you have to use their dialect when you read these...

Paula: "Who is the President?"
Kid: "Boosh"

Paula: "Who is the mayor of San Francisco?"
Kid: "Newshom"

Adorable and impressive, in my opinion! The most reassuring thing for us was that all the kids were excited to see each other as they were dropped off and they were excited to see the women who worked there as they came in. Tommy started on our laps, then was handed some blocks to chew on. Then he started reaching for toys that were farther away. Then eventually he got up and walked over to get what he wanted. We decided to do a quick kiss and leave quickly once he was playing independently and it worked.

When Tom picked him up around 3:00 he got the full report. He played for a little while after we left before realizing what had happened. He did cry for a little while but was able to calm down and participate in story time, etc. He ate lunch (homemade vegetable soup!) and took a good nap. When Tom rang the buzzer and Paula saw him on the video she told Tommy that his daddy was there. Of course, he starts crying! So when Tom got to the door he was crying when he had actually be happy most of the day. Typical!

We'll see how tomorrow goes. I imagine he won't be as trusting when we bring him in and will probably know what's up and put up more of a protest. We'll see...

Shockingly we did not take any pictures of this event. I do have a cute video I need to upload one of these days of all this talking he's doing. Something to look forward to...
